What’s past is prologue. Let the history of May 4, 1970 be heard this week. Episode 1 of the new “Legacy May 4” podcast visits the site of the tragedy, then looks at how Kent State moved from the optimism and opportunity of 1960s higher education to an unintended turning point for the nation.

  • Birds flew overhead, black squirrels darted around and a cool, calm breeze swept across Risman Plaza on April 22 as dozens of organizations assembled their tables for Earth Fest, an interactive Earth Day event.  

  • Kent State University students exercised their freedom of speech rights on Tuesday, April 16, with opposing speakers appearing on campus the same day.

  • Kent State University’s School of Peace and Conflict Studies and School of Communication Studies has organized a panel discussion to talk about free speech and protest on campus to educate students about their rights and responsibilities.

  • All eyes have been on Northeast Ohio the past several weeks as the Kent State University and The University of Akron’s men’s and women’s basketball teams battled it out for the MAC championship title. It wasn’t always such a bitter rivalry between these two Northeast Ohio legends, however. Just look at this old footage we found of Flash and Zippy bonding back in the day.

  • The Kent State women’s basketball team will play in the NCAA tournament for the first time since 2002. Champions do so much on their own, just look at the stats. But this championship team is supported by its members, its coaches and the Kent State Community.

  • The Golden Flashes have made it to the NCAA tournament during a moment when women’s basketball is in the prime spotlight.
